Metabolism and circular economy

Territorial metabolism analyzes how a territory produces, consumes, transforms, and redistributes its resources. Closely linked to the circular economy, it provides a systemic view of local value chains and stakeholder interactions, helping identify opportunities for optimization and resilience.du métabolisme territorial permet d’analyser comment un territoire produit, consomme, transforme et redistribue ses ressources. Étroitement liée à l’économie circulaire, elle offre une vision systémique des filières locales et des interactions entre les acteurs, pour identifier les leviers d’optimisation et de résilience.

  • Identify existing data and build a solid analytical baseline.
  • Structure and analyze data to unlock its full potential.
  • Reveal actionable levers to optimize flows, resources, and procurement.
  • Strengthen the skills of technical teams so they can eventually carry out their own studies independently.

Our software library Sinamet is the first French digital environment dedicated to territorial flow analysis. It enables modeling, visualization, and interpretation of local dynamics to support strategic decision-making by elected officials and technical teams.

  • Limoges Métropole : Technical assistance for the creation of an energy and food transition hub.
  • Région Grand Est, Emmaüs Connect : Territorial assessment of computer flows for reuse.
  • POPSU Métropoles : Study on the role of waterways in the metropolitan dynamics of Strasbourg.

Observatoires territoriaux

A territorial observatory is a tool for understanding and monitoring local dynamics. It brings together and analyzes data across multiple themes : energy, food, waste, materials, carbon, mobility, to support informed decision-making by local authorities, businesses, and citizens.

At its core, a territorial observatory is about organizing the information chain. We structure this chain across four key stages: data collection, analysis to produce insight, dissemination of information, and action.

Sinamet is designed as the central building block of territorial observatories. It facilitates data aggregation, analysis, and visualization, while enabling wide dissemination to support better collective decision-making.

  • Projet de recherche CO2Inno : Observatoire de la mobilité électrique sur le Rhin Supérieur.
  • INRAE, PETR Pays de la Déodatie : Territorial observatory of agricultural and food product flows in short supply chains.
  • Collectif Réemploi Charente : Experimental observatory on the local reuse of construction products and materials.

Mapping and OpenStreetMap

Mapping is a powerful lever for understanding a territory (its infrastructure, flows, and interactions) across all sectors.

We integrate mapping into all our projects, producing custom static and interactive maps.

Beyond visualization, we contribute to open data platforms such as OpenStreetMap and Panoramax, ensuring data remains accurate, up to date, and reusable.

To capture on-the-ground realities, we also conduct field surveys on foot and by bike, using GoPro 360 equipment.

We rely on open-source tools including QGIS for GIS analysis, OpenStreetMap for collaborative data, and IGN Panoramax for immersive visualization.

These are combined with our own Sinamet for advanced territorial flow analysis.

  • OpenEnergyTransition & Datactivist : MapYourGrid initiative for mapping the world’s electric transportation networks.
  • Live (Unistra, CNRS) : Interreg Project Karto-District.
  • Saintes Grandes Rives l’Agglo, Vélo d’Vie Cognac, Vélocité de l’Angoumois : Cycling network analysis.
  • PEFC Grand Est : Static and interactive mapping of forest areas at the regional scale.
